"Let’s Just Go to the Registry Office”… The Registry Office? Babe, That’s Me… But With Better Vibes

Updated: 6 days ago

Registry-Style Ceremony Without the Stuffy Office

You know that line in movies where someone says, “Let’s just go down to the registry office!”?

Cue the dramatic decision to skip the big wedding, duck off for something simple, and legally tie the knot.

Here’s the twist: in Western Australia, “the registry office” doesn’t have to be a government building at all.

In fact, I am the registry office.

Okay, okay… I don’t sit behind a marble desk in a government building (thank faaaark – I’m not made for that life). But as an authorised marriage celebrant based in Perth, I can conduct what’s called a legals-only wedding ceremony, same paperwork, same legal vows, same official outcome just in a much more personal setting. No stuffy marriage office just something short & sweet. No fuss, no fluff – just the legal words

💍 Want to get married at home in Perth with just your kids and the dog? I’m there.☕ Prefer a quick registry-style wedding in a café? Let’s do it.

🌳 Fancy a simple elopement ceremony in a park or on the beach? Too easy.

🏡 Want to pop over to my place and make it official with zero fuss? That’s an option too.

Bride and groom exchange rings outdoors with Perth-based marriage celebrant Carina Quinn at a private legals-only ceremony. Surrounded by trees, the mood is joyful and serene.

And unlike the single marriage office in Perth (yep there’s just one), you’re not limited by business hours or government settings. With a celebrant, you choose the date, the place, and the vibe. I’ll bring the legal bits.

💡 What is a Legals-Only Ceremony?

It’s exactly what it sounds like.We meet all the legal requirements to get you married. No fluff, no guest list (unless you want one), no personalised vows unless you’re keen. These legals-only ceremonies are perfect if you want a quick registry-style wedding in Perth — no fluff, just the paperwork and the ‘I do.’

  • Just the legal vows and paperwork

  • The signing of three official marriage documents

  • Two witnesses

  • Me (your celebrant)

That’s it. You’re officially and legally married in Australia.

Need to complete your Notice of Intended Marriage first? I can prepare your NOIM online, witness it by secure video call and lodge it for you.

Registry Vibes, Celebrant Style

So, if you’ve ever said...

“Let’s just go to the registry office.”

Just know:That’s me! But better. I bring the registry office legalities with flexibility, warmth, and a setting that feels right for you.

Under 10 minutes. Just the legals. Done!

How much does a legals-only marriage cost in Perth?

If you're just wanting to make things official without the full ceremony, a legals-only wedding might be exactly what you're after.

My legals-only ceremonies are $550, which includes preparing and lodging your legal paperwork, conducting your ceremony and registering your marriage afterwards.

The WA Marriage Office also offers simple legal ceremonies and is generally a little cheaper, but their pricing can change over time.

For most couples, it isn't really about saving a few dollars—it's about choosing the experience that feels right. If you'd love to get married somewhere meaningful, have a little more flexibility with dates and times, or simply prefer a more personal experience, a celebrant is usually the way to go.

If you're ready to complete your Notice of Intended Marriage before your ceremony, you can start the process online here.

Is a marriage celebrant the same as the Marriage Office?

The short answer is... no.

The Marriage Office conducts legal marriage ceremonies at the Registry, while a registered marriage celebrant can legally marry you almost anywhere.

Your backyard. A winery. The beach. A brewery. Your favourite Airbnb. Or wherever feels like you. Often down at a gorge local park or over my kitchen table.

I'll also guide you through the legal paperwork, make sure everything's lodged correctly and make the whole process feel a whole lot less overwhelming.

Absolutely!

In fact, some of my favourite weddings have happened in people's backyards.

As long as the location is safe and suitable for a legal marriage ceremony, you can absolutely get married at home.

Whether that's your own backyard, your parents' place, a family farm or a gorgeous Airbnb, getting married somewhere that already means something to you can make the whole day feel even more special.

One of my favourite things about being a celebrant is helping couples realise they don't have to follow the traditional wedding rule book. If home feels right, let's make it happen.

Yep!

At the Marriage Office, your ceremony is still conducted by an authorised marriage celebrant.

Every legal marriage has a few requirements, but don't stress—that's my job.

I'll guide you through the paperwork, explain everything in plain English, and make sure you leave as officially married humans.

▼ Can a marriage celebrant marry us anywhere in Perth?

Pretty much! And Beyond!!

One of the biggest perks of choosing a celebrant is that you're not limited to a registry office or traditional wedding venue. I've married couples in backyards, breweries, wineries, parks, private homes and some seriously beautiful spots around Perth. If the location means something to you, there's a very good chance we can make it happen. Because your ceremony shouldn't fit into someone else's idea of what a wedding looks like.

It should feel like you.

I am grateful and humbled to work, learn, live, create and perform ceremonies on the land of The Whadjuk Nyoongar people.

Aboriginal cultures and customs have nurtured, and continue to nurture, this land. We follow in the footsteps of those who have been before us for tens of thousands of years. This land beneath us has seen people dance and sing, live and hold ceremonies, not too dissimilar from the ceremonies I create.

I appreciate, pay my respects and honour the custodians, Aboriginal Elders past, present and emerging for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia. We are but a piece in the bigger picture.
